Greg - hope your father gets well quickly.

Levi Leipheimer lives nearby and the local newspaper has an extended interview with Levi HERE (external link).

Levi did the right thing.

take a sport, any sport, find their most successful player/athlete...

then strip them of all their winnings, tell the world they took drugs, it will shake up any sport. Any team with next to no wins will be old news under the rug...

nobody would give a flying crap if the aussies took drugs in swimming, compared to phelps taking drugs and being stripped of it too.

But then, being from abroad, I can happily say that the US loves to show about itself than manifest any news about any european teams etc. being involved in this drug thing. Heck if armstrong was totally innocent and all this news was about Festina, you'd get 5 seconds of news in the US, and the rest would be about something else.

Livestrong will be pretty damaged from this - simply because people put their faith in a man that did overcome cancer, but could be successful afterwards. Sure it inspired people, but heck, with all this smackhead talk, the guy was the spearhead of his own charity. I can guarantee you that 75% of people will move their charitable donations to other cancer funds, with ease. Nobody wants to be associated with a druggie.

Take it any which way you want, but to deny the obvious is to be blind to reality.

It frankly surprises me that this scandal is a surprise to the world in general. It really shouldn't affect LAF, but I suppose it might.

I don't think there's ever been a doping scandal in a sport where the sport cleaned up afterwards. Festina didn't change a thing. Puerto didn't change a thing. Neither will this.

Imagine if they started doing out-of-season random testing on football players! Hell, even golfers. Cycling is unique in the amount of impact a doping program has on performance though. Runners too...

Think of the impact if it turns out Peyton Manning was taking performance enhancing drugs, especially during this come-back season. The turn-around in his performance Monday night was nothing short of miraculous. Of course, a lot of that may be because the Chargers didn't take their drugs in the second half...

Levi did the right thing.

Absolutely. If he hadn't he would have had a 2-year ban and missed a couple tours. By doing the right thing, he gets to race in the Tour next year after his 6-month sentence.

He really manned up by testifying and saving his tail.

Contrast this to someone like Sager who missed a test and got a two year ban with no evidence. Maybe if he'd confessed to being a huge part of a 10-year doping program, he could have gotten off a bit easier.

(I really do like Levi though -- this is all USADA's fault for going after Lance as if it matters -- and I hope to see him tearing legs off again next year)

While I agree that America is about Americans (which is why probably 99.99% of people on the street have never heard of the Festina Affair), it still surprises me that you might be right regarding people moving their donations out of LAF to other charities. I really thought more people knew about all this and were just looking the other way.

Sorry to hear that, Greg. You're family is in my prayers. Not good... not good at all...

Whatever Lance did or didn't do, I just hope Livestrong doesn't take too big of a hit, they've done a lot of good for cancer research.

Sounds like they are trying to do some damage control. Gotta distance yourself from the sacrificial lamb.

Those are the die hard's. Some how some of those are still left. They attribute that if he didn't cheat then the foundation would not have been created, yup as if the American Cancer Society does not exist. The rest are people who love to be attributed to a winner. To a "noble" cause. Lance is Livestrong. He has tarnished the good vibe of being associated with it regardless of its cause. It will decline slowly from here on out.

I liked Levi as well he did the right thing. Come out now and get it over with.

Oh and it needs to be said "I am sorry Greg LeMond"...

People know about what is going on, people don't want to be associated with what is going on.

Same thing happened with Tiger Woods, and all he did was have an affair. People just don't want to be associated with people who do things that (in their books) aren't right.

So they will take their money elsewhere. Just like sponsors. Nike had to say "**** off" to Armstrong, otherwise they would be known for sponsoring a known drug/cheating user. Someone with a profile that large would hammer their image.

I expect Armstrong to end up on "so you think you can dance" or "survivor", or heck how about Big Brother XMCCXIIXXIV

Thanks for your thoughts. There is a good chance dad will be home this afternoon, he probably faces a array of tests to make sure identify other problems.

Aaron's MRI came back only yesterday and was all clear.

It's amazing where social conversation about photography at work came lead. A young engineer at work mentioned he'd just picked up a 7D & a 50 F1.8 and was now looking for a Sigma 30. Turns out I have a Sigma 30 that has sat unused in the box for a few years. Looks like I might offload it.

Original here. Too much color in last one.....looks almost more selective color than vintage.

Woolburr wrote in post #15132661 (external link)
You lost me with the selective color. This is selective color....

Ok....time for explanation.....what I meant was that there were too many full red "pops" for me in the "vintage" pic and it appeared more of a selective color thing because of that.

If the hidden fighters of Burma turn out to be a reality, it will cause one hell of a feeding frenzy in the "War Bird" market.

Original, unused parts, engines and whole airframes would go for ridiculously premium prices. The scary thing is, there are people out there who, I'm sure, are already warming up their checkbooks.

I would love to see them flying and not used as spare parts unless the airframes are destroyed. I gotta believe someone has looted them already though unless they are out in the jungle somewhere.
