I bought it for $100.00, and will end up putting about $200.00 more into it. I should be able to sell it for around $150.00. WIN!!!

Yeah, that sounds about right...

Looks good so far.

I have new tires and a seat coming for the bike. The tires are 'skinwalls' (external link)(tires with brown sidewalls) to give it the proper 'period' look. I've also ordered a new leather saddle. The one that came with the bike has seen better days cosmetically, even though it's still serviceable.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

and I feel that after Christmas I can get a better deal maybe 850-900 new
especically if Canon comes out with a 7D mark II just a rumor

and if any of you know how to clean the shutter without me f ing it up
I would be interested in hearing about that

I do feel my 40D could crap out again any second
I only have the 1 camera

After Sat Im sending it in for a tune up

If you are sure that you're going to buy a new camera in the near future, buy it now. The amount that you would save on a sale is about the same amount that you would spend to rent a body for the weekend. Send the 40D in for service after you get a new one.

Or else cross your fingers that the 40D will survive the weekend.

The hundred a day rent will eat up any savings you would make by waiting till after the new year so if it was me with that work in front of me the choice would be clear, buy the 7D right now and worry about the 40D after Christmas. It doesn't matter how many rabbit's feet you have if the 40D is going to crap itself again it will do it right at the start of a game!

Wish I could help you, but the only thing I've done "inside" the camera is change focus screens and clean the sensor.

The problem with Canon's error codes is that they only point to a general area.

You'd need a meter, some leads and probably some proprietary software to really nail down a specific issue. Probably why Canon repairs get reported in pretty broad terms.

"Replaced Shutter Assembly" or "Swapped Main Board" covers a host of sins.

I'd like a dime for all the Error 99s I've gotten over the years. Most of the time it is nothing more than the lens not playing nice with the body. Lens off/lens on and things are back to normal. If you are thinking of getting a new body, there is no time like the present to jump on it. The 7D is a fine camera and there are places with deals.
