My regular work career ends today. Had a big retirement party yesterday.
Just going in today to clean up some lose ends and clear out the office.

I have to shorten the cables, and swap the saddle for a tan one, but that's about it. The rack is back on since the photo was taken, just to prove it's touring potential. It's about 2" too tall for me, so I dropped the seat as low as it would go and took it for a ride around the block. It is really a sweet ride. The 27" X 1 1/4 tires are pretty cushy, and the drive train is exceptionally smooth. I might just go into the hospital for some leg grafts so I can ride this baby on a regular basis. I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Edges have bearing problems. I can't remember how big the axle nut is off hand, a lot of them are 30 or 32 mm. (Ranger is 32, I changed one this morning) Hub bolts on from the back, those bolts may be difficult to get to, extensions and flex joints are handy. Then the fun part is getting the hub out, an air hammer and chisel are usually recommended. This is all going off my memory. The Ford technical site only works with Internet Explorer, Safari doesn't play nice, and I'm too tired to go fire up the laptop. Paid $600 to get it done. Didn't have time to experiment.

If it was for one of the bosses kids, I would had wound up having to do it. It's unfortunate when it comes to my own vehicles I just don't have the time.

Having to pay someone else to do something you're capable of doing is rather annoying. Always seems to work out that way. I had the day off and I was getting phone calls and text from work about our 1976 Allis Chalmers garden tractor with snow blower. I guess they they couldn't start the thing, I told him as it was cold to take the spark plug out and heat it with the flame on the stove. Worked like a charm. Then my brother called and said his John deer was sputtering a lot. Told him to put some heat in the gas. As it's not doing it all the time it seems like a fuel issue.

It cost us over $1000 to have similar work done on the Suzuki. The big difference was having to replace the half-shaft. They couldn't find a serviceable used one so we had to get a new one... John

Jill-of-all-Trades far from having everything figured out! More info | Dec 21, 2012 19:30 | #9720 Wheel bearings can be fairly reasonable or they can give a person a heart attack. Yesterday I did two, one on a Ranger and one on a F-150. The Ranger one came to $515. The Ford bearing for the F-150 is $481 plus installation. An AC Delco bearing goes for $330. Melody
