Our VET called it 'sterilized'.... (still one to go here, sst! keep your voice down ;))

I won't tell. I remember when I had Jazzy and Misty that they called it that too. But Somehow they gave it the same name now. I read it on a cat forum, that is why I asked them.
Not that it really matters of course... :)
So The difference is mostly that with castration by females they take out everything and with a sterilization they only make sure that she can't get babies....Like with humans. Here in the Netherlands all cats are castrated (M/V).
