Was just messing around with the camera the other day and caught my cat in this cute pose. I'm an amateur photographer and would appreciate any and all feedback; if you see any flaws please feel free to point them out! :-)

Gorgeous kitten :-)
OK, I will try to do my best: try to shoot in natural light and expose correctly. This shot is on a dark side and the kitten would glow if it was lighter....such a beauty.
I understand that it's not always possible to shoot in natural light, so with artificial light you could correct it by pointing the flash towards the ceiling or a light wall to make the light bounce. In this case the light source comes from the left at an angle and creates a dark, strong shadow. Maybe you could put a sheet of fabric over it to soften the light.
Try to increase the SS (shutter speed) 1/50 is not fast enough and may cause a blurred shot. Lower the ISO to either 50 or 100 if you can. Best to shoot in M mode, manual that is where you control every element of the exposure.
I'm sure that other members will offer some input as well.

Good luck and keep shooting :-)

Gorgeous cat. I like as is, but that's my preference.
You could simply throw (natural, ambient) light back under or around the cat with a strategically placed aluminium baking tray(s), or something largish and reflective.
Surprising how much light such throws around.

That is a mouse that got into the house. Yes, it was alive in this photo. As you can see, my cat, being a Ragdoll, did not see the live mouse as prey but merely as an interesting object.
