After cuddling, talking and feasting he sat on the doormat right by my patio door for quite some time. I lay on the floor with my macro lens and shot his eye. Both were taken through glass...very dirty.
Love the razor thin focus in the first profile shot; you can see the curvature of his face.
The second shot shows the reflection of a rug inside my studio and also a tree reflected in the glass door.

Glad he's back but you've got to stop posting his pictures, every time I get a feeling of deja vu

Your shots are even crisper; I couldn't get the same quality. Perhaps it was the dirty glass door or maybe I should focus manually. Compared your EXIF to mine and perhaps the high ISO is the problem it the SS. Will have to experiment.

I think your focus is spot on but dirty glass can be a killer. Also the quality of light is very important, if everything is spot on but the light is murky you get a blah picture.
ISO with your combo should not be a problem, see the picture of the eye, ISO 2000. SS can be a bit of a problem, even though the IS helps your hands the cat is rarely sitting absolutely still so either a higher SS or a lot of pictures in a row and hoping 1 or 2 are sharp(and I don't think there is much of a difference between our shots, biggest difference is my subject is female ).

Been shooting birds on the feeder all morning, someone was feeling left out...

funniest cat thread ever.
It could be the shutter speed, 1/60 is an eternity with cats and a 100 @ 2.8. Window glass will make it soft but there is the tiniest bit of movement. I have the non-L and I've made many trash images because of slow shutter speed at macro distances.

Kevin, it is the funniest cat thread ever and I love it and I'm sure the other cat nutcases do too
I think it was the SS, I have just shot his eye at a very short SS but a relatively high ISO because the devil shows up late.
I used to have the non-L 100 mm macro and I did't trash too many; actually my lens was quite good but I didn't shoot cats back then.

Mine ended up trash as my ss was too low or at min focus I was off a mm or so. My copy is as good as it gets but back then my skillset sucked.

Kevin, yes, slow SS can definitely kill a lot of pics.
