You need:
Wrapped box with an opening.
Ribbons and bows
Styrofoam pellets

That ought to do it. We gave up decorating after the Swarovski crystal snowflakes went flying. Lost a bunch of them.

My cats leave the tree and stockings pretty much alone, they do try to swim in the tree water tho, so we bought a fake tree this year.

I got them adorable bow ties for their Christmas photo, they even don't seem to mind wearing them!! I'll wrap a box tonight and see what happens.

I have tin foil cover over tree stand/water receptacle for the time being. Then we cover it with a tree skirt.

They have all night to figure out how to bypass that.
