I use, almost exclusively, the Tamron 28-75, which I love, but it leaves me without a useable wide angle. I'm not a professional photographer, just a keen amateur that enters local comps and has sold a bit of my work, and I hate lugging heavy camera bags with a range of lenses around on trips or holidays. Been there, done that, and have no desire to repeat the experience. Am also well over having to clean lenses and sensors when crap blows into them while lens changing "in the field".I know they are not well regarded, but is there a screw on WA converter that will fit a Tammy 28-75 and can still produce good shots, either with or without a bit of PP?
I don't want a second lens, so even a cheap option like the kit 18-55 is out. I've serously considered the Canon 15-85, but thats still a steep purchase even after selling the Tamron and I'm not sure the IQ is the same.
Any suggestions much appreciated, budget would probably be to about $200 max.

Thanks,

Hal55

No. Those things are all junk.

One option, if you don't want to be changing lenses, is to get a good quality point-n-shoot camera with a suitable super-zoom lens.

IQ of your 28-75 will not be the same with a wide angle converter. So if it is image quality you are worried about, the tamron 18-200 (used 185.00) will be as good as your tamron 28-75 with a cheap wide angle converter. Now you will still have your desired 1 lens set up... but with even more reach.

In lieu of a WA converter, have you thought about, or attempted to do a multiple image panorama?

So, you purchased DSLR and not cheap lens and now your idea is to handle it like P&S with fixed lens?
Changing lens in the middle of dust or rain storm is the only valuable reason not to change lens.
Not to take wider lens like 18-55, which is very small and light is not the argument.
Crap WA adapter will take almost same space.

The 18-55 will give you wider for a budget.
If you like the 28-75, you'll love the 17-50. But more expensive than 18-55.
Panorama is the cheapest way of course. Just requires a little more work.

I agree about an 18-200 (or even 18-135). It will solve your problems and get you better IQ than adding a converter.

Sell the 28-75 and get a canon 18-135 or 18-200. The 18-135 is a great lens! The 15-85 (which I have) is also a very good option, but quite expensive. And I think 18 will be wide enough if you're coming from 24. But maybe try them out if you have the opportunity.

Thanks for the constructive input, looks like the converter isn't an option. I did try, unsuccessfully some years back to stitch panoramas together but I imagine software has improved since then and I'll have another go. Some members of the camera club I belong to use "ICE" and swear by it.
My wife's little Olympus P&S stitches panoramas together "in camera" and a surprisingly good job it does to.

Hal i have used ICE and it works quite well, only problem i have found with it is that it only stiches Jpegs but for a free product is does a great job, canon also have their own software that is also pretty good

Like everyone here I shoot raw so the "jpeg only" restriction on ICE will be inconvenient. Still, that will be the way I have to go, as mentioned earlier I've lugged camera bags with a 10-22, 17-40L, 28-135IS and Sigma 70-300. Yes, I got some nice shots but I finished up with a camera full of crap from lens changing in a stiff onshore breeze while taking the 12 Apostles on the Victorian coast (Australia) then a ton of PP work cleaning up the images afterwards. I like my photography simple these days!

Thanks again for the input
