I cover at least 1 5k running or obstacle course events every single month. Lately it just seems all my shots are looking too similar. I am looking for ideas for different angles. I was hoping some POTN members could show me some shots so I can get some more ideas on shot angles.

Here is a few of mine...

All are straight on. Try shooting from the ground up and from the side -- getting closer to the subject. A shot of the runner just as he/she is just over you should have some impact. Sorry I don't have a shot to show.

Like 1, the expressions on those two soldiers is good and 4 for the intensity. Stay safe.

Here's one of my daughter's teammates at a cross country meet. I wish I could say I planned this shot, but it just sort of happened - on the spur of the moment I decided to pan as he went by and this is what I got.

Great work. Must be tough running in June in the desert heat though:)! I'm just down the road in Dubai and have to get up at 5am to run to avoid getting delirious in the humidity and heat:D.

Get low, and shoot slightly from the side.

When shooting head you can tend to get a lot of one legged runners due to the knee lift running action, easier to avoid when side on shooting.

Mark, good angle shot #1, I'll have to try that next time. We had another relay race yesterday.

I need to use more portrait aspect photos for these types of events.

Fred,

Great shots, and I definitely think you're correct about using more portrait/vertical aspect in the future. I'm definitely not a pro, but I think running shots should include the runners' legs and feet (at least most of the time).
