I'm wondering if lens prices change based on season, in the same way that prices in other industries do? For example, motorcycle prices are high in the spring and come way down toward the end of summer. I am trying to plan my purchases and wish to maximize my $$. So if waiting another few months for something new means saving a couple hundred, I'd gladly wait.

I don't think so, they fluctuate when a new version comes out. People use lenses year round

Retailers usually have special sales "Black Friday" through the end of December. There is the risk of price increases between now and then.

Yes, I think so.

Some time back (Nov-Dec timeframe) Amazon had the canon efs 10-22 for 649 and the 55-250 for 149. I bought the 10-22 and screwed up and passed on the 55-250. I also picked up the 100-400 in Dec/Jan from B&H for 1349.

Thanks guys, and especially to dingie for the web address, though i see a lot of stuff goes quick, so you have to be ready to jump on the deals.

kwando, I realize people take photos year round, however, at least in half the country, weddings slow down, the zoos close, and less people are outside in the cold taking pictures. (went to the zoo on a busy Saturday a few weeks back and it was like a DSLR convention. Every adult it seemed had one around their neck)

Like these posters above said, Thanksgiving to Christmas last year was the best pricing I've seen in a while. I picked up the 70-200 f2.8 Mk II for $1,900. Can't even come close to that pricing since then. I really want the 24-70 f2.8 Mk II if this glass turns out to be what the spec's state but don't need it that bad where I can wait and hope for the same type of break this year.
