7D - maximum useable ISO?

whats the maximum useable ISO on 7D for portraits / events? (for online use - after NR is applied)

Thinking of buying a 7D as my second camera (I mainly shoot events).

Ofcourse I know this will result in a very subjective response, but on average most answers would be close to one another with a few outliers.

Better high ISO noise than movement blur. I use anything between 100 and 12800, depending upon the circumstances.

For online use, after NR I think you could go as high as ISO 6400 depending on the scene and the websize. ISO 3200 will be just fine.

ISO 4000 ... tops 6400 - if i got to have a shot or the situation at a wedding that is a must have shot and lighting (on or off camera flash) is not accessible.

Go as high as you have to to get the shot without getting blur. Otherwise you either have a shot with unacceptable blur, or no shot at all.

This is highly subjective and depends on many factors.

What do you consider acceptable IQ?
How much skill do you have with NR, masking etc. to get the most out of high ISO shots?
How easy will it be to consistently overexpose your images?

The 7d is not a great high ISO camera in my opinion. With some skill you can make it happen, but it's going to take a lot of time to clean up images. If lighting is even and consistant I think the 7d is good up to ISO 6400. When there are shadows and the lighting is inconsistent I prefer ISO 800 or below. If I had a 5d III I don't think I would even pull a 7d out of the bag unless you need a dual camera setup or the 5d died.

I just noticed that you specified for online viewing. The 7d responds well to downsizing for the web which will increase your useable ISO's

+1. 3200 is my usual limit, 6400 at a stretch.

For insect photos with natural light I have found that my 7D is acceptable up to and including ISO 1600. I read somewhere that the architecture of the 7D is such that multiples of 400 offer the best results when using higher ISO numbers with a 7D. I have tested this and found it to be true (for me anyway).

400 or 800 was probably my limit when I had one which if I'm honest is the only reason I don't still have one!

Here's good printable shot at ISO 4000 but I have printed at 6400 with good results.
