I just noticed the Canon rebate has been extended for another month (it was already extended by a month once before). It makes me wonder if Canon's sales are suffering a bit.

It wouldn't surprise me if Canon's USA sales are hurting since the prices of most lens raised 20-30% over the last couple of years.

i keep thinking about the 8-15mm, but every month the $100 continues. i will think again in 4 weeks.

storage - just log onto anyplace like B&H, and you will see them listed with each lens.

Me either. When the 600EX was announced, I was super excited about RF until I saw the price. I was pretty bitter about the price increase of the 70-200 and the 400mm 2.8. As much as I complained, I replaced my 70-200 and 580ex. I have to think, however, after a certain price, I'm not going to buy anything. My guess is, for a lot of people, that price threshold has been exceeded. This is just a guess but maybe Canon wanted to see how far they could push it and is now realizing they have to pull back. My guess a permanent price drop on many items will be permanent as the price increases haven't increased enough to offset loss of volume.

Same for me. I probably will keep my money for the next big megapixel body. The fisheye for me would probably be very limited in use.

Seeing that Canon priced 5D3 at $3500, thats about $1500ish over 5D2.
and now the 24-70mm 2.8 IS II pre-orders priced at $2300, thats $1000ish over previous version.

It is no wonder why I also think their sales are hurting major.

Not to mention canon's main competitor Nikon has been strugelyling to keep D800 in stock while 5D3 can be found almost everywhere! So you can see the pattern here. Canon got little too greedy by raising price over $1k-$1.5k and now the people have spoken.

for the sake of accuracy, the price of the 5DmkIII did not raise by $1500. the canon 5DmkII was introduced with the price of $2699 and considering the recent events and the exchange rate, the difference is actually even smaller.

Apparently for some Canon products there is an upper price limit that makes you really consider if you want that item or its not worth that premium price.

You know Nikon has a terrible reputation for stocking anything good, right? Canon has a much higher supply ability and can cover the orders placed for items. Go look at B&H at high end lenses and look how many are out of stock. They don't make near the amount of volume of Canon.

Just because they are in or out of stock does not dictate how popular an item is or how it is selling.

The only people I've seen who have spoken are the owners of the 5D3. I haven't seen a word of regret from 1 of them.

The thing I find interesting is that all the big ticket lenses have been on rebate every month since last October or November except for 1 month. And the rebates around Christmas last year were much better than what is out there now, with some surprise sales popping up here and there. It's making me think about waiting for another BIG sale before I buy, as these prices seem to be becoming the norm. With what I've seen over the past few years, I will not be buying a Canon lens when there isn't any kind of rebate going. I was thinking about the 135L last year and it was $1075 I think at the time. THen the rebates came and it was $980 or so. Then Adorama had it for $899. Combine that with the 4% Mr Rebates they were doing at the time, I got a brand new one for $863; over $200 and almost 20% off the "going rate." Same with my 35L. So I'll be holding out for the big sales from now on.

Why doesn't Amazon do the double rebates?

- Good point, was thinking the same thing past few days. Canon has to be lot bigger manufacturer than Nikon.

Looking at the original 400mm 2.8, no rebates yet in the US (rebates show up on yellow on cpw graphs):

But in Canada, yes, there was a $1000 rebate in 2010, and a few before it.
