I picked up the sigma 150mm lens today:) I have done loads of side by side tests putting one lens on the body then the other, all tripod mounted. the sigma lens is as sharp as the canon . the sigma lens has warmer colours . cant wait to try it out in the field

Yes, a great lens. Came with hood and tripod collar as well. Don't forget to try it out for non-macro pix. I don't use my Canon 100 macro much after getting this one.

yes please post pics and more reasons! i would have thought that a 100 would be better suited to the 20d because of the crop factor making the 150 officially 200 something in mm?!

Hi i cant post pics to this forum for some reason , you can see the pics of the 100mm macro on the site below. i will add some from the 150mm as soon as i have some nice ones. the 150 mm for me will be better in the field as i will have a little more working distance from the snakes and insects that i photograph. i was just doing some comparison pics between the two lenses yesterday on leaves and some flower seeds to check the sharpness of the new lens and i was happy to see that it seems a tad sharper than the canon 100mm and the colours were a lot warmer. In fact the shots from the canon seemed dark compared to the sigma. all the tests were done with a tripod and remote release. The 100mm would be better handheld in the field but i use a tripod anyway. just my fivepence worth. some people may have noticed completely different results. Not slating the 100mm either as it has done me very well in the past.

As a reference for working distance: Doing 1:1 with Canon 100 macro and subject to hood distance is 3". Using Sigma 150 macro and it is 5 3/4". On less magnification the diff in distance increases.

I have been in a bussiness trip to Canary Island (I live in Spain), which it´s a tax free area, and looking around in the shops I found my Christmas gift sudenly:

Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX APO DG MAcro !!! for 530€

I couldn´t believe it !!! I didn´t take my camera, but the guys in the shop (a famous one, with very good reputation) prepared me a 350D to take some samples. I waqs surprised for the size, pretty compact for a 150 mm tele. I did some shots like tele & macro and I coudn´t resist; I bought it!!.

Just at home, I tried some very quick tests because I have to took another airplane to spend the Christmas weekend with the family, but the impresions are also suberb. Warmy colours, very sharp even handheld. At the begining in the shop, the HSM system looked to me "slow" (the light was dim and the ISO was at 100), but with daylight it´s fine, not the quickest one but fine; and very quiet (loudness) !!

Well I must leave, but this lens in the FM has actually a 9.8 !!

Cheers
Juan
