I use this all the time indoors, and it works like a charm for me. However, when I had my 50 1.4, I found myself switching to that quite a lot just for when the available light just wasn't there. The 24-70L, in my opinion, is about as sharp as it gets when you're talking zooms. I like it even more than my 70-200L IS. You wouldn't be sorry. Quite honestly, it's absolutely the nicest standard zoom I've ever seen/used. Mac users swear by their computers. PC users swear at theirs.

Personally, I'd get a couple of stellar Canon primes 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8 and then a Sigma 24-70 2.8.
