I get the same lens flare on my Pro1 when I use a slave flash near to the field of vision of the lens. The lens hood helps a lot.
Perhaps the 420EX+omnibounce protrude too much to the front and your lens can “see” the flash. Try screwing a lens hood in the adapter or blocking the light from the omnibounce to the lens with a piece of cardboard and test for flare with and without the hood/cardboard.

Would the collapible rubber lens hoods work? Also would a uv filter on the lens adapter do the trick?

There are so many on here who use the Omnibounce that I am kinda surprised I have not read more about this. Which led me to think I may be doing something to cause this.

Yes it does look like hexagons, definitely flare. I have a better view when I've had a cup of coffee. At 2 am last night they looked circular to me :) rpolitsr's advice is excellent.

The collapsible lens hoods worked fine for me in my SLR Canon A1 for lenses greater than 50mm. Some lens hoods produced shadows in the corners with the 28mm lens.
I guess that you will not have problems with the 35mm equivalent (wide angle) lens of the G6.

Definitely looks like a dust mote close to the lens being picked up by the flash.
Using a hood on your lens will make sure the lens (and any dust on its surface) is shielded from the flash, and in fact will shield any dust in the air slightly in front of the lens.

This problem is usually seen in compact cameras where the flash is very close to the lens and thus any close dust motes appear quite bright but very OOF.

I have just got a G6 along side my G3.

On the g3 no problem at all with the omnibounce
On the G6 the lens is 7mm furter back and catches light from the omnibounce and I get circles every time.

Lens hood for me too now.

Joe what kinda of collapsable lens hood did you buy?
I have the 420 EX on back order I have been looking at the omni and also the lightsphere trying to decide which one would be better.
Lightsphere is double + the price of the omni.

Just bought one at Ritz camera for around $6.00, I think Lensmate sales them also. Just screws on to the lens adapter. Lately I have been experimenting with just using an index card attached to the 420EX pointed straight up and been getting good results, maybe you want to consider that before getting the omnibounce.

I also heard bubble wrap would work to diffuse the flash.
I guess trying all the things out would be good if my flash ever comes in.
