Hello can anybody shed any light on my canon eos 400d problem.
It happened when I went to take a photograph it said that the cf card was full
and that was it. The camera won't switch on I tried a fully charged battery and
another cf card but will not switch on.
I even connected it to my computer but it won't power up.
Checked the battery door but don't see any problem.
Can anybody give me any info be very much obliged.
Your's Norman.

Have you tried a "hard" reset of the camera yet?

Turn the camera off. Take all batteries out of the camera(including the backup button cell, if it has one).

Then switch the camera ON, depress the shutter button for a few seconds.

Turn the camera off, replace the batteries with KNOWN good ones and try the camera again.

It's kind of like rebooting a computer when it locks up.

Tried what you said Mark but I'm afraid it did not work.
I even tried connecting the camera to my computer but this did not work either.
Looks like a workshop job--has anybody else had the same problem.
Cheers, Norman

Norman, was any of this behavior preceeded by either removal or insertion of the CF card? On rare occasions CF cards have been known to bend the pins in the card slot on the camera body. A few weeks back, someone removed a card and put it into a card reader to transfer images to a PC. Whatever he did, he bent pins in the card reader, and then when he inserted the card into the camera, he damaged the camera (electronically) as he reported the pins in the camera were not bent.

There is a good thread on CF card damage and bent pins at https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1127101.

One of the best sites on the bent pin issue is at http://www.tomguilmette.com/archives/445 (external link) where a bent pin is discussed on a 5DMkII. Note the writer of this thread was able to get a no-charge repair from Canon.

Yes the 400D has a backup-battery.
It is located in the main battery compartment.
