I have just got CHDK up and running on my new SX40, I have made the SD card bootable and locked the card but how do you guys delete images after downloading? With my DSLR's over the past 6 years I have always just formatted the card in the Camera after downloading but if you do this by unlocking the SD card you will lose all the CHDK files! do you have to reinstall CHDK every time or do you delete the images some other way?

you have to delete all in camera after downloading to computer, do not format card. Or you can unlock card and delete images in computer but only the images not any other directories

Thanks Hans, is there a way of bulk deleting the images in the Camera or do you have to do it one at a time?

Does that work with CHDK (the operative concern here)?

Just what I was looking for, thanks Colin - it does work with CHDK loaded.

Roy, what do you use chdk for on the sx40 and have you had any glitches with it installed?

It installed no problems (there are some useful u-tube videos to guide you), it only resides on the memory card and just loads each time you switch on so there are no actual changes to the Camera.
I primarily loaded it for the RAW option but found out that it also supports superfine jpegs (less compression than the in-camera ones so more detail I guess). I have found The RAWs are no good for action photography because it slows the Camera down considerably so shooting in bursts is not really on but maybe OK for stationary shots such as landscapes. At the moment I have the superfine jpegs as my default quality. There are loads of other options in chdk but I have not had time to play around with them yet.

I use CHDK mostly for the additional display features like Battery %, Current Zoom 35mm equiv, Near and Far focus distance display (DOF), time display and for superfine jpeg on my S100, you can also increase the auto ISO max beyond 1600 Ive got my Auto ISO set to go up to ISO 4000

An easy way is to download a program called CameraVersion13 from the following link then open a .jpeg file shot with your camera using the program per insrtructions

you don't need to use the play button when you install per the link below. It is for the S100 but should work for your SX40
