I'm looking into getting a light meter, to be exact the Sekonic L358. B&H has good reviews on it.

What do you guys think? BTW, I really don't want to go over $500.00 or so.

Any feedback would be great.

thanks

R.

Any Sekonic is the way to go. I have owned and loved both the L-358 and L-758DR.

I have a brand new Sekonic L-758DR with optional Sekonic lens hood and Sekonic 18% grey card. I paid a little over $700.00 for everything with shipping. I'm willing to let it go for $500.00 shipped and insured. Paypal add 3% to cover the cost. If you want to see some pictures or ask some questions feel free to message me. I'm about to put it up for sale on my local CL, so if your seriously interested in getting a great deal on an awesome light meter I suggest you act fast.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

The L358 is a great value and has most of the features you would want.

I agree that the Sekonic L-358 is a superb choice for everyday use.

If price is a real concern, the Gossen Digisix (external link)is a good starting point for a basic meter. Among the least expensive flash meters is the Shepherd Polaris. (external link) Both units' prices fall well within US $500.

Depends on what you intend to do; but judging by the price range you stated your looking for a flash meter and not just an light meter. The Sekonic L-358 is usually recommended on this forum but an excellent alternative (and less costly) is the Gossen Digipro F.

You can also get excellent analog flash meters on auction sites or stores like KEH for less than $100. Personally I own an analog Gossen Luna Pro F and a digital Sekonic L-558R and I much prefer the analog meter; its simple to just set the needle to null and get the precise setting whereas a digital reading of f/7.1 + .70 requires a bit of mental calculation.

^ +1 to the excellent post above. I use an analog Megatron EuroMaster which is a modern Weston Master V. It gives you all the possible aperture/shutter combinations at a glance. Sekonics are good but I also strongly second the Gossen DigiPro F (external link), it's a really accurate meter that can be calibrated by the user. It also has an aperture priority mode like the Sekonic L358, a feature that is a must for me with any meter.
