Hello everyone. I am in need of help. I am not happy with my test/sample videos and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Here is a sample video, please watch in 1080p:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ4xcbVLDlA (external link)

(ignore music and sliding--at the moment I am only interested in video/image quality)

My problem is that the video/image quality is poor. This can clearly be seen when the video is in full screen mode, 1080p. How do people achieve that crisp, critical focus? Currently I am using the common X10 zoom method, using AF hone in, and then hitting record.

Here are the settings for the video above:

5D Mark II
16-35L, set at 24mm
Focus method: X10 zoom, AF, then shoot
In camera settings: Philip Bloom settings
Shutter Speed: 50
Aperture: 8
ISO: 640 (I believe)

Adobe Premiere CS5.5
Sharpness added back with Unsharp Mask: 82 str, 21 radius, 21 threshold
White RGB curve adjusted to S line
Sequence Preset: DSLR 1080p24

Please help :(

Not sure where the focus point is, it looks like the stop sign on the road with the rest just beyond the range of f8.

I'm not sure what the focus point is supposed to be either. The stop sign is the first assumption simply because of how prominent it is in the shot.
The processing done on the footage also makes it difficult to tell. Perhaps using footage with just the sharpening done to check.
f8 for a shot with so much going on doesn't seem like its slow enough to capture eveything. f16 maybe? Just guessing.
And even Phillip Bloom has stated that the 5d2 isn't stunning sharp. He note the 5d3 is eye popping after adding sharpness in post. (his review of the 5d3)

^ Thanks guys for the replies. The focus was set between the white Prius (first car on the right hand side) and the car opposite (so the middle of the road between the 2 cars). Arty, are you suggesting I use F16 over F8?

When shooting general scenes I use f11 on my 7D, that gives me an acceptable sharpness across the area. Much like a camcorder it's the DOF that is required for that kind of shot. Keep the narrow focus for more closeup person to person where you want to avoid a distracting background, much the same in still photography, you don't shoot a landscape at f2.8
