We just got back from 7 days in the parks. We saw black bear along the roads every day we were in Canada except one out of ten at that was the day we were clear over by Vancouver heading home. We are planning to go back in late September and I picked up a 100-400L for that trip today. I used a 17-55 for most of my landscape shots. Used my 8-16 for a few special shots, and my 70-200 both with and with out a 2x converter for the rest. We didn't do much hiking this first trip as we had my 85 year old mother and my sister with me and my wife. We plan to do more exploring in September when we go back.

And for sure stop and walk around Moraine Lake. It is heaven on earth!

Last time I was in Banff (The town site), I watch the Lady in the house across the street from
the Hotel come out with a broom, and take swings at the moose eating the flowers in her flower bed.
A small heard of elk were in town at that time, wondering around as well. And a Grizzle was also
spotted in town chasing the elk around.

I agree with others the Ice Fields Parkway north towards Jasper is a great drive. IT's also a good
spot to find the Big Horn Sheep and Mountain Goats, and Black Bears.

If you do the walk in from Lake Louise to the Tea House and beyond, you will find more
animals. They ususally recommend that you carry bear bangers and bear spray when you
go back in there.

And the Athabasca Water Falls are spectacular, as well.
