I'm going through some old photos that I never got around to posting here since I'm stuck in the house as a care giver while my wife recovers from a pretty serious accident. Good news is that she will recover completely, but it will take a while. So I don't know when I'm going to get out again, and this will have to do for a while.
I was in Orlando, Florida at the beginning of November for a conference my wife was attending. I had two mornings available for photography, so I packed my gear into our Think Tank Airport Int'l. and went out to try my luck. I had to be back for "events" each evening, so sadly, my time was limited. Since work has been crazy lately, I've only just gotten around to finishing the processing these.
I was out before sunrise both days and packed up to head back to the hotel around noon. The first day (11/4) was overcast, which meant low light levels in the morning but no shadows and very even lighting. The 2nd day was sunshine, which meant that the "good light" was only available for a couple of hours at most. So this is a total potpourri, not presented in any particular order.
I have more that I might post, but there is the 8 image limit.
All photos were taken hand-held. As always, the EXIF is intact, and your comments, critiques, and slams are appreciated.
1-2. Wood Storks. These were taken on day #1, and are very slight crops for composition only. This guy got pretty close to me.
3. Boat-tailed Grackle male. These are generally pretty annoying birds and I rarely will point a camera at them, but sometimes, the background and pose can make them worthy of a few shots. Taken on day 1.
4-5. Sandhill Cranes. There are SHCs all over the area, and they are pretty inured to people. In the first photo, he flew right over me. The first photo is nearly full frame and was taken on day #1.
6. Loggerhead Shrike. Taken from the rental car on day #1. These little guys were plentiful, but I liked this image because of the bkg and the grub. Too bad about the perch though.
7. Juvenile Crested Caracara in flight. Again, lousy light, but one of my only photos of a juvie.
8. Red-shouldered Hawk in dappled light. This was my first subject on Day #2. He was very patient with me, so I was able to find a decent bkg, even though the light was tricky.

Stunning series.
