My 5d111 has got a mind of its own, I dont think it's supposed to do this. When I have it set on TV it sets its own ISO, even though I had it set to 200 it over rode the setting and went to 12800. I realise if I'd kept it on 200 the shot would have been too dark, but that's not the point, I DID NOT have the ISO set to Auto and yet it behaved like I did. Is this a fault or is it working as it should. I tried it on AV and the ISO remained set on what I chose, so it just seems to be on TV. Is my camera sick?

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you've got Safety Shift enabled... Basically it automatically adjusts the shutter, aperture, or ISO even when you've fixed them to maintain a correct exposure.

See page 317 of the manual...

I think Chris may have the answer...further study of the manual may help :)

thanks I actually found this myself, took myself off to bed with the manual and camera and worked it out. What I am wondering now though is how the hell did it get turned on in the first place. It wasn't on when I started using the camera, I've used TV quite alot with no problems, then suddenly it was turned on. Just one of the mysteries of life I suppose. Thankyou for being the only person to offer a helpful suggestion though, even though I got there myself in the end. :)

Well, the 5d111 (Mk one hundred and eleven) is sentient, so it makes own decisions when needed. What else expect from a camera 108 generations later than the current 5D3 (5D Mk III) :D

Glad you got it sorted :)

yes, I think I was right when I called it a rogue camera, it also makes decisions when they're not needed. Makes for an interesting relationship with it though, I still think I'm a bit in love with it, it's a bit of a bad boy.

I had safety shift on for Tv/Av over the weekend, hadn't got a clue it was turned on (or what it really did) as I can't remember activating it, but it certainly made for some interesting photos at an airshow. Once I'd realized and turned it off it started behaving itself and I got loads of great shots. Another good reason for checking the screen every now and again despite the chimping jibes.

It's weird isn't it, I cannot see how you could turn it on accidentally, you have to search it out to turn it on, and yet you too had it happen. Maybe there is a little glitch that it occasionally comes on without being asked. Oh well, at least we know what to do if it does it again.
