I just bought a used 17-40L. It seems to have a weird AF noise on the first start of the camera. It makes a clicking noise during focusing. After a while it goes away and it starts to sound like a normal USM lens. When I turn off the camera and let it sit for a while, the issue comes back when I turn the camera on again. Eventually after it warms up, the issue goes away again.

Here's a video of what I hear.

You can really hear and see it around the 9 second mark.

2nd video:

Anybody got any ideas what the issue could be? Other than the initial clicking noise on startup, the lens seems to work fine.

That doesn't sound healthy, sounds like the USM motor is starting to die.

I'd say your best bet is to get it serviced by Canon :\

uggh. I'll have to try to work something out with the seller. He's denying anything was wrong when he shipped it. Then again, he did package it poorly so it could've gotten damaged during shipping.
