I would go with the 60D with either the 15-85 (variable aperture) or the 17-55 (fixed f/2.8) Canon lens, depending on your use, i.e., mostly outdoor or a combination. As far as a longer zoom, budget has a lot to do with it but from reading here, people seem to think the 55-250 is a better lens than the 70-300 non-L.

I realize some of these comments are a bit after the fact since the OP already has an 18-200.

I have not seen any reviews that state or show the 55-250mm is being better than the 70-300mm is. For the small difference in price I would take the 70-300mm is. Most people reccomend the 55-250 over it because of the price difference.

Greg,

I have never used either and you could well be correct. I had heard the 70-300 non L was a bit soft at 300mm... I defer to those with working knowledge of both lenses and sit corrected.

Sometimes, a single lens solution works better- not missing the shot because you need to change lenses. Also, tends to make the wives happier- as she is not changing the lenses either. (she hates technical things, like messing with computers, cameras, pumping gas into her vehicle, etc...) You may end up with redundant lenses in the same ranges- but sometimes it is attractive to have one set of glass for higher IQ when it is called for, and another set for a general walk around glass. for example, I really find the 17/18-5x range too short for when outside- hate it- detest it. Everyone seems to recommend it - overall- but to me- it's way too short. Enter the longer zooms like the 18-135/18-200. Detested by lots on here- also liked by a number on here as well-- perfectly fine for what I am doing with mine.

If you enjoy hiking, I'd recommend keeping your 18-200. Having one lens to carry is lighter, easier to carry, more convenient, and you don't need to worry about things like dust while swapping lenses or wife aggro for wanting to stop and swap lenses for different shots. :)
