Can any one answer this. When I download images from my camera to my pc the size is 48 X 32 resolution is 72. I'll open the image in PSCS2 I'll change the image size to 6 X 4 res. 600 and then print. Heres is my question, Why when printed to the 6 X 4 I can see the square pixels when printed?

What means are you using to resize the image? I do this using the CS2 crop tool set at 300dpi without issues when I print -- you should not need anything finer than 300 dpi.

What resolution setting did you use when you took the photo on the camera?

You might post an image in the forum if you don't get it resolved.

Apparently you have checked the box that enables Resampling. You do NOT want to resample. I suspect that you have ended up in throwing away most of your image.

When printing from your PC, you do not need to resize the image. The menu File->Print with Preview takes care of everything for you AND makes sure that you cannot inadvertently downsample.

I use PSCS, but I think that menu item works the same in CS2
If there is any confusion on that point, just make sure that you never re-sample. The only thing that counts in printing is to give it all the pixels that you have in the image. Whenever you give the printer less than are available in the full image, you are throwing away detail.

I use raw +jpeg.

There are 2 ways I use. Either go to image size or I crop to the size I want. I usually set resolution to 600.

You might post an image in the forum if you don't get it resolved.

If I post the mage you wont be able to see the pixels. its only when I print.

I'm not understanding the "48 X 32 resolution is 72." size. You should be able to convert the RAW file to a 3000X2000 18MB 300ppi tiff to start out with. Check the settings in your conversion software.

When I download the image to my PC, Open CS2, then open my image, Go to image size and it says in the box's(width is 48 and the height is 32 Inches, Resolution is 72 pixels per inch). Thats how I open the image.

When looking at resizing your image make sure the number of pixels is not dropping.
I have my PS CS2 to display pixels on top, inches in middle and DPI on bottom of factors.

I pay most attention to number of pixels as it is there I will see if I forgot to check or uncheck the correct box at the bottom of the image size pop-up window.

If just changing the inches then if you have the check boxes at the bottom set correctly there should be no change in the number of pixels, but the DPI should change.

if starting with say 72 dpi at 48x32 you should have 3456x2304 pixels (give or take a couple)
So changing your dpi to say 144 should get you 24x16 and still 3456x2304 pixels
or Changing inches to 4x6 should change dpi to 576, but you should still have 3456x2304 pixels. If the pixels are changing you have one of the boxes checked wrong at the bottom. cancel, change the boxes and try again.

If the pixels are not changing and you are still having the problem printing then I would first check to make sure you are not printing in draft or standard modes. Make sure your are printing in high-quality mode.

Hope that helps,

You do NOT want to resample

Thanks that solved the problem. Now I have a new one. I'll start a New thread for this one.

Thank you for the positive feedback, and I'm glad my suggestion worked for you. We don't often get feedback from the original poster as to the final outcome.

You have no need to resize your image at all. When you print, just tell it to print a 4x6 image instead of "actual size" It will do all the work for you.
