I think a little hand cramping would be a decent side effect of prodigious imagine quality.

I'm with you. I would really like to know more about people being physically hurt from ergonomics.

I think a lot is down to age.
In exchange for wisdom one loses physical capacity.
E.g. When I was a student pre health and safety days: I did a hod carriers job (lifting bricks up ladders in a tray of 12 bricks and putting them out for the bricklayers ) 8.00 am till 6.00 - every day we lifted in excess of 17 tonnes per day. I was so fit: I would have laughed if someone told me the ergonomics of a camera could cause pain!
But over 55 now, 3 hours + into a shoot with a 70-300L onboard (total 2.2 kilos); if the camera isn't a good fit My hand is uncomfortable!
SAD to admit just a fact.
Hence I love my 7D and was not so keen on the Sony A 77.
I did change Brands more for the overall build quality and especially the L series Lenses but ergonomics were a significant factor.

Ultimately, I am returning it because of the pain it inflicted upon me. I do not have large hands but man the ergonomics really suck. Maybe I am just use to canon but after shooting 45 minutes my hand is in some serious pain.

That may be an effect of buying the camera mail order or via internet from out of state instead of going to a store, and buying it there where you could have handled the camera and very possibly noticed it did not fit well in your hand.

I used the d600 a few times now. I can confirm that the ergonomics is terrible. I think it is the way the buttons are scattered all over the body. To change some of the fundamental settings I had to move my right hand off the lens barrel. That means removing my eye off the VF. It is unacceptable.
Because of the button layout on a smallish body, it results in more finger acrobatics and in the end, I was quite happy to return it back to its owners. I do like the shutter sound though.
