[1Dx has landed at my work and of course we threw it in our gear modeling table to take some quick shots of it before we prep it for rental. I saw that as an opportunity to photography my 5DmkIII next to it for a side-by-side shot of both cameras. The 1Dx feels slightly better than 1DmkIV. It actually makes the gripped 5DIII feel sloppy and unwieldy compared to it (note, compared to it. the 5DIII is actually the best feeling gripped body I've ever held and I've pretty much fondled our entire inventory). I can imagine myself holding this comfortably all day with a 400mm IS II attached and not become as fatigued as man-handling the heavier and chunkier D4. The shutter has a nice sounding clunk to it, like the satisfying sound of slamming the door of a mid 80's Porsche. Its loud, mechanical and would probably scare children within an earshot.

That looks so good! Can we get a rear shot by any chance :p:lol:

What are the two buttons for on the front? I assume one is DoF preview but what is the one next to it?

Hm... not that I would ever complain if I was fortunate enough to own the 1DX... BUUUUT... I just noticed that the M-Fn button on the vertical grip side of the 1DX is placed in a whole different location compare to the normal grip. That would bug me. (But only because I don't own one. I'm sure if it was mine, I'd say it's perfectly placed.) :p

I didn't notice that, but from other pics I did notice that the multicontroller is the same on both sides, that does bug my on the 5Diii grip

But won;t be able to afford the 1Dx anytime soon

The body of the 1D X closely resembles previous 1D cameras, but close examination reveals a series of changes. The most significant is perhaps the addition of a second joystick on the rear of the camera, to ensure all functions remain available when using the portrait orientation grip. The camera also features twin buttons next to the lens, in either orientation. These are customizable, allowing you to access features such as the electronic level gauge or jump to registered AF point.

oooooooo that sounds great if it can be set to AI-servo -> one shot.

Then can still have both DoF switch and AF switch!

thanks Teamspeed

I believe it can. It's highly customizeable.

Earlier post asked about the lack of a dial on top left "shoulder" of the camera... yes, the three buttons seen there are used instead. That's been the standard for 1 series cameras since the film days, as well as the EOS-3. It's nice that it's not easily bumped and accidentally , the way the mode dial on the 7, 5, xxD series cameras is.

Personally I've always hated bolt on grips. I've never felt they are as good in hand compared to the 1 series. This is a major reason why it was dx for me over the mkiii. The side by side shots shows how different a bolt in grip is in reality next to the 1d.

4 more just arrived! I don't really have much time to take more scientific pixel peeping shots, so I just took a bunch of random photos

The neck strap's canon logo is now gold instead of white. So now it looks like a normal canon strap after a few cycles in the laundry
