I've been following and photographing a local band called Common Man Down for about a year, now, and have shot them at several different venues but have not encountered light this bad until now... was a small bar near Northside, Cincinnati, OH called Mayday.

I shot with the Sigma 50/1.4 and the Canon 100/2, but all of these are from the Sigma. Just too damn dark and I hadn't really shot in low light with it yet. Each of these shots are at ISO4000 or ISO5000 and at f/2.0 or larger. Guess I'm gonna have to get out of my comfort zone and use the 580exii.

Click on any of the images to see larger.

Thanks for looking!

Why is using the 5DMKII getting out of your comfort zone?

No, using my 580EXII is getting out of my comfort zone... haven't tried a flash at these shows yet, but am about to... I want to use my wide angle at a concert, too, and that will help with that as well. I'm just not comfy using the flash quite yet...

If you are able to get in early if a band ever has a closed practice; it is a great opportunity to shoot and learn, without disturbing the audiences feel of a concert.

Yup, we actually have that set up next week when they practice. Also doing a shoot in Gary, IN with one of the group for his band as well - which has turned into an interesting venture as well. I get a lot of opportunity to shoot them, and now it's just jumping into the flash, which they don't mind, especially with wanting to use my uwa lens.
I love my primes, but I'm chained to my 50/1.4 a lot because I shoot in lots of smaller venues who have horrible if any house lights.

It's all good... I will say that if the MkII is my comfort zone, though, I'd like to get out of it and into a MkIII for sure!! Then maybe I won't have to deal with my flash! :D
