Went to a local show last night, I'm not sure why they chose the 3rd of July but it allowed me to get some practice in on shooting firework displays. Please excuse the shots from the parking lot, we were late and it was way crowded
It was my first time shooting fireworks and I learned a lot. I started with my 50mm 1.8 and then switched to my 70-200. As I experimented, my aperture ranged from F13 to F8 with and exposures went from 6-8 seconds at ISO 400.
What I learned is, a cable release is really necessary. I was using my wireless remote but having the ability to close the shutter right when I wanted to would have made getting images much easier as I got a lot of clutter and over exposure on multiple bursts going off when I really didn't want to capture multiple bursts. Now I need to see if I can find a show tomorrow to use what I learned today. I'll also bring some black foamcore to try to control when my exposure ends.
The first one my kids like because it looked like a palm tree, and the last one was my favorite. Timing is everything!
