Could the latest firmware release for 7D a possible decider?

The larger RAW buffer will certainly be very nice for 7D owners, but I don't see any other reason for the OP that would make the 7D more attactive vs the 1D3.

Excited. I have two 7Ds and love them. This will be good.

I would opt for a 1DIII.

Which one is going to give the better ISO performance? My ultimate camera has been the 1Dsiii. I enjoy shooting at night hand-held. I have had no real issues with the 7D but would the 1d3 be better? Would it matter if it was a 1D or 1Ds? Thanks.

What will the effect be of the 1.3 crop factor of the 1D compared to the 1.6 of the 7D on the effective use of the 70-200mm lens and will the 1.4 multiplier be an option?

The lens on the 7D will appear to have bit more reach. Actually its just because the smaller sensor is only recording a smaller part of the image the lens presents....hence a sort of "digital zoom".

70-200 on 1D3 = 91-260

70-200 on 7D = 112-320

Personally I've shot with both and while you might need to crop a little more from a 1D3 image I dont think youre going to see the difference.

I'd lean toward the 1D3 for the AF speed and accuracy and just the overall durability.

Ek het die 7D en 1D MkII. Ek wil elke.

(My Afrikaans is crap! Sorry...)

You really can't go wrong with either, but the addition of the lens with the 7D sweetens the deal a bit. Plus, you can still pull the grip off and carry a smaller rig when you want that. The 7D will give you a bit more apparent "reach" due to the crop. Plenty of frame rate with either one. Honestly, I'm sure you can be happy with either one.

If it's in good condition, I'd definitely go for the 1D MKIII.

My 1DIII also produces better photos.

I love my 1D mk III and the fact you have two card slots may help you out for longer sporting events or even just for the redundancy
