Sadly, this is not true. Each pixel collects light from the entire aperture. It is only by stopping it down that you exclude some of the aperture from the image.

I thought it was true that smaller sensors used the middle part of the lens. That's why there's vignetting on certain lenses when mounted to a full frame camera and also why edge sharpness is less of an issue on crop sensors. On the other hand, edge scratches might affect light diffraction and flare in certain situations and more or less prominent depending on sensor size.

Aperture is /= to sensor size.
