Thought this would be fun to share- Recently I used a Canon T3i in an underwater housing driven by a custom robotic panoramic system to take what is, as far as we know, the worlds highest resolution underwater image at 2.6 gigapixels. The lighting source is the National Geographic “SunSphere”, an ultra-bright lighting sphere designed to light the deepest ocean depths. This video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CMPl_U0Qio (external link)) shows the system working as well as the resultant spherical imagery from a flooded cave system in the Yucatan. It also shows how we can navigate the imagery with the iPad in a virtual reality like manner. Let me know what you think!

Wow, that's awesome! The clarity of the pano pic is so clear, It seems like your watching footage instead of a picture when your looking around. Nice!

Corey,

That is great stuff - thanks for sharing. As a fellow underwater cave diver... we can't convince you to make your way to Australia at some stage with that thing, can we? ;)

I've seen lots of underwater photo's before in caves - but that just really gives you a much better 'feel' as to what the cave is like! Great stuff!

Maybe it's my work proxy or I'm missing something, but where's the Pano picture? Even the HTML source of the post only shows the YouTube link :)

One of those times when you realize that you thought you'd been keeping up with technology; but you really haven't. Wonderful work Corey. Thank you for sharing it!
