now that i have been shooting more portraits lately (for money) i wonder if i should upgrade to a FF, thinking 5dmkii. i'd like a wider FOV with my 50 and 85mm, but i could always just get a wider prime.
Would I see any significant IQ in addition over my 60D?
i can sell my 60D and my 10-22 (since it wont fit the 5D) to fund the 5D and keep all my other lenses.
should i go full frame or would i be better off just picking up a wider prime instead?
If you're shooting really low ISOs, the differences will be negligible.
That said, I prefer FF for (most) things because primes work "correctly" on FF. I hate 50mm on a cropper, as it's really no-man's land as far as FOV. 85mm works, though, as it's almost like a ~135mm.
Plus, the shallow DOF gets even more shallow with FF, and I love the isolation one can pull off using FF.
That said, watch out for going too crazy with shallow DOF, as you may find yourself needed to stop down a bit to get both eyes in focus, etc. (which has the great side-effect of rendering a sharper image, as most lenses render sharper stopped down....so, you achieve the "same" DOF effect as if you were shooting crop wide-open, but with a sharper render).
