I always heard you should at least have one camera from each line. I've got a 300D (Rebel line), a 40D (xxD line) and a 7D. Still need to pick up a 5D3 and a 1DX.

Dont be concerned with small tech improvements. Camera manufactures laff all the way to bank on upgrades. Camera manufacturers laugh all the way to the bank on any purchase or upgrade. If you buy a body with a kit lens, they know that there's a decent chance you will get one more lens. If you buy a body only, they realize that you will likely buy at least one more lens. If you buy a entry crop, they realize that someday, you might step up to a more pro body or all the way up to a full frame body. Either way, they see it as you will likely start collecting lenses soon, if not already. If you step up to a full frame body, not only did they get you with the entry price, they also realize that you are stuck with more expensive EF lenses- and overall- more lenses for them to sell to you- very pricey lenses.
