Dave, I've followed the thread over to its new home, still love to be on the list. Am away until the beginning of August but would appreciate meeting up early August, so many questions. In the meantime I'll re-read the previous threads.
Stan

That's grand Stan. Look forward to it. There's a huge amount of info in the previous trip threads and sometimes we've started new threads when we get back to showcase images. Some top quality stuff and every trip has been very different and so produced some very different shots. previous trips I've wanted to mix 'culture' with wildlife shooting; the last trip, and even more so this one, been almost exclusively wildlife. However, if folks want to venture out of the park one day we can because there's interesting local stuff to see not far from some park gates. There's also some very interesting monuments and cultural/historic sights within the park itself!

^^ Dave.. the search results aren't working as links..
:(

Here are some of the links I came away with after my quick search.. It seems to vary slightly and the search also returns a lot of rubbish.

Here is the 2009 Journal

Masked Weaver from Olli Here

Great African Photo Safari III 2009

GAPS 3 Lioness with Cubs

GAPS IV - Giraffe don't really exist!

GAPS IV - leopard's life

GAPS IV - The Big Five (or six!)

GAPS IV - some of the pretty ones

I'm know I have not found everything, but here are some of the quick results..

Yeah - the vBulletin "Search" results are only temporary. If you want to post a search, try using Google for the POTN domain. Or, as Joayne did, just post the actual links you found.

Dave, good to see you back in action!!!!
Taking a month for yourself with two different groups is pretty good. Gives you lots of time in a place that you love!

Anyone who has not been to Africa and is looking for a good primer, these trips are probably the best way. No guides/companies rushing you, a fairly relaxed schedule, and experience leading you. Probably the best $$ value for this type of experience!

For others that want to get an idea of just how close we were to the game: http://jazzdpg.smugmug.com …K#!i=1428617050&k=SKqZwsv (external link)

Everyone who signs on: Have a great time!

A few more links:

( GAPS ) POTN Safari around South/West Africa - journal (journal from the first trip)

POTN Safari around South/West Africa - we are baaack :-)

Wiki page for the first two trips. (external link)

GAPS2 Africa II 2008 - experience a trip of a life-time!

Great African Photo Safari III 2009 - trip of a lifetime!

POTN Great African Photo Safari IV 2011 - limited places available

An advanced search with GAPS in the title only combined with a name of a partitipant will get the most accurate search results. But of that means you need to know who paritipated in the trips.

I can vouch for Dave and his trips, it was the experience of a lifetime! I may be interested in the trip, but would have to work some numbers. Looks like I may be returning to SA this fall, but for a different kind of wildlife. My dear friend that lives over there is expecting her first child. ;)

Would be great to have some old hands returning ... makes a big difference when folks know the routine ;)

"You still running your go anywhere backie?"

Yes indeed. We leave on the 4th August for a 28-day trip via Kgalagadi to Moremi, Savuti, Chobe and then back home via Caprivi and the western pan-handle. The trusty steed is being readied for the trip and excitement is mounting. We will be camping for most of the time interspersed with the odd night in a lodge (Chobe Safari Lodge, Namushasha and Drostky's Cabins). By all accounts, the ellies, hyaenas and baboons are causing a fair amount of havoc in the camps in Botswana and we will need to be cautious, this should be fun. Now if only Canon will start delivering the 500mm f4 - in time for this trip...

BTW, I have done all the detailed planning and bookings for this trip and can offer you a wealth of info should you ever decide to go into this part of the world at some stage.

I will keep an eye on your 2013 KNP plans and see what develops.

Bill
