Today I went to Best Buy to pick up my new T3i, while putting the camera in a bag the salesperson dropped it from the counter three feet to the floor. This is a body only no lens in the original box with bubble wrap. Should I take the camera back and exchange it or do you think it will be ok.

I personally would take it back, in fact I would not even have accepted it. You could put a lens on and test it out, but who know what may problem crop up somewhere down the road?

It was in a box and wrapped in bubble wrap? seriously? Have any of you guys ordered something online and had it shipped? Its not exactly delivered in a Town Car by a man wearing white satin gloves...

But since it was gonna bug you forever, you should have just asked for another (that had probably already been dropped at some point along the way, just not in front of you) before you left. But they should take any exchange within 30 days, right? So just take it back...

I would have demanded a replacement right then and there. And checked the serial number to make sure I didn't get played.

It suffered much worse getting to the store than that. The box and packaging are designed to take much more abuse than a 3 foot drop.

this. if it was in the box, i wouldn't worry at all about it. trust me, the amount of abuse these boxes go through when shipping is way worse than that drop. besides, the packaging is designed to keep the camera safe in cases like these.

If it is new in box... They would have just swapped the box

I ordered online because I just wanted the body, they only sell the kits in store. I thought about refusing it on the spot and reordering but I was afraid they would just put it in the back and call me in a couple of days and give me the same camera. I think I will write the serial number down and return it. But truth be told no one knows how many things are dropped in transit. Thanks guys

Take it back. In all likelyhood, no damage occurred... but, do you want to find out? Sort of unprofessional of them, but that's what these kind of stores are like.

i worked for a big box retailer years ago. one year i worked at night putting up freight. you can't imagine the amount of abuse things go through. i'd try a couple of shots and then decide if i really feel like going through the trouble of taking it back and waiting on another.

The guy should have just given you another one without having to say anything. But, I have watched videos on youtube of people booting them down the stairs among other torturous acts and they still work.

Haha... yeah that dude in Hong Kong who was like pouring tea on the rebel and D40 and using them as shoes hahaha... My mom took the same Rebel XT to Tanzania like 20 times at least (along with a Tamron super zoom) both plastic fantastic, no weather sealing blah blah, both worked fine until the day her bag got stolen out of her SUV there... replaced it with an upgraded version of each, so far, so good! Haters usually just need to justify their over expenditures ;-)a

By walking out of the store you kinda missed your chance. Now if tell them they dropped it they will just think you did. If you return it they will either just sell it in store as an open item or ship it back to Best Buy where they may sell it as an open item or whatever. I think you are overreacting because you happened to witness it falling. It went from a factory, to a container ship, across the largest sea in the world, to a dock, then probably a train, to a truck, to a warehouse, to another truck, to the store. I am going to guess it took some more shocks than a 3 foot drop.
