Some are saying that the box probably got dropped way worse during delivery...and they are probably right most of the time! Here's what I say...we all know restaurants drop food, serve spoiled food, spit in it, don't wash their hands, just basic lack of sanitary sense. We all still eat the food not knowing what happened in the kitchen and the food most likely tasted great and we didn't get sick...but if we witnessed first hand the food picked up off the floor we all wouldnt eat it. As the saying goes "what we don't know, won't hurt". But since you witnessed it, I feel your dilemma and pain. What it comes down to is "peace of mind"

Amen!

I personally would take it back, in fact I would not even have accepted it. You could put a lens on and test it out, but who know what may problem crop up somewhere down the road?

+1 now it may be too late.

It was in a box and wrapped in bubble wrap? seriously? Have any of you guys ordered something online and had it shipped? Its not exactly delivered in a Town Car by a man wearing white satin gloves...

But since it was gonna bug you forever, you should have just asked for another (that had probably already been dropped at some point along the way, just not in front of you) before you left. But they should take any exchange within 30 days, right? So just take it back...

This. Don't be so naive to think it hasn't had a worse tumble before but if it's a matter of your sanity, just take it back and be done with it.

These cameras my be tough and resilient but a small fall can do damage - Three weeks ago I knocked my 40D out of car door onto an unpaved driveway. Not a scratch on it - Turned it on and took a picture and breathed a sigh of relief. Next time I turned it on and bam......... Error 99. Did everything suggested on forum and still Error 99. Called United Camera and talked to there Canon tech and told him everything the camera was doing - He said most likely shutter was gone and due to the mirror staying up all the time, the mirror box would need replaced. It was insured through State Farm so I filed a claim -When claims called, they did not even ask for it to be sent for an estimate. The just cut me a check for what it was insured for ($499). There is a 60D on the FedEx truck to be delivered today.

If you guys saw the way couriers treated packages I don't think any of you would own a camera.....I purposefully avoid our warehouse when the couriers are here to stop me wincing in pain (no I don't sell photo gear, but gear which is just as delicate).

To be fair though, if that happened to me in a store I'd probably have politely asked for another...

When I got my 5dc from Future Shop, (shipped across Canada via Purolater) the outside box was all smashed in and pretty much torn open on one corner. But the Canon box inside was OK. It was the last new 5Dc I could find on the web and I was torn about what to do.

However when I registered it on the Canon website, I got an email asking me to send it in for the mirror fix. I called and told them about the shipping and they said they would check it out. In the end there was nothing wrong with it. Just a good thing that Future Shop shipped a box inside a box.

To the OP, if your gonna obsess about it you'd better take it back and see if they'll exchange it otherwise you'll never get a good nights sleep. On the other hand, if it works and the camera has no physical damage you should just go ahead and take some pictures.

try it out, it should be fine. I didn't need it, but thank you for giving me another reason never to go into that chain store.

It seems a bit harsh to ban a store just because somebody was a bit clumsy? I could see poor customer service, high prices, etc all being decent reasons though.

I'm never shopping at bestbuy again.... but thats because I got a new laptop and the LCD screen went out.... I took it back sent it off for repair and it came back even MORE broken then when I sent it (They jacked up the clips and the LCD screen was split off of the back lid.)

So I sent it back and demained new parts.... After waiting three weeks I got it back (The replaced the back lid) only to find that it was damaged again.... this time a corner was dented and the front plastic bit that has the webcam on it had a huge gap between the LCD screen....

Again I sent it off.....

2-3 weeks later I get it back.... for like 2 months and the LCD screen died completely.

I took it back got the $580 (Out of the $740 I spent on it) due to the lemon law and built my desktop computer.... needless to say I won't be shopping for anything major there ever..... I'll still with Newegg or tigerdirect.

How about annoying pinheads in blue shirts?

Best Buy won't be around in 2 years, and tho that's not nearly fast enough to satisfy me, I'm patient and can wait for their demise. This was the beginning of the end for them

The g-load from this fall, directly on to pavement with no box and bubble wrap, is literally orders of magnitude higher than what a boxed and secured camera would take. It is amazing how much even a small amount of proper packaging can reduce the forces of an impact.

So, what would you rather have, instead of Best Buy? Once they are gone prices will just go up everywhere else. While I have had my issues with them from time to time, they generally treat me well and I have never had an issue with an exchange or anything. I don't rely on their repair services.

What was the damage to the box ?? If there was none, then I doubt that there was any shock to your camera at all. If on the other hand, the box was caved in, then, thats another matter..........
