Yes, everyone can have an accident, a bad day, etc.. that's only human. The issue with places like this.. vs. a true camera shop, is the 16 year old girl handing you your $1000 camera, doesn't know a thing about cameras, and thinks that iPhone(or any phone) cameras are the cat's a$$. ;) Therefore, they are less likely to be careful.

Hear this all the time and it's stupid. If you go to BB or local camera store and know what you want, then you say give me one of those camera's. What difference does it make if the sales person knows anything about it?

As far as the OP, it's to late to take it back. There is no proof that it was dropped by and employee.

The camera was dropped by a young girl who later told her co-workers what she did, didn't try to cover it up. For my piece of mind I took the camera back today and received a full refund. I like going to Best Buy to compare before I buy, they also have 0% financing which can't be beat.

Glad to hear that! So, what will you do now? Buy another? From BB?

It will be. I've watched them take a return and put straight back to the floor.

I'm sure that girl got a tongue lashing from her boss over this:

"Yes, I know Bob dropped it 4 times in the back, but next time, make sure you drop it when the customer isn't looking" ;)

I believe you misunderstand, substitute "package" for "box", they would have just swapped out one camera package for a new one from the back.

You'll have to explain that better for me.

Cheers,

This is what I envisioned my 5D mk2 went through, the outer box was decimated and Adorama had neglected to put any bubble wrap in the box.

Camera has performed flawlessly.

Pillows are our choice of packaging rather than bubble wrap because it is proven to be the best shock absorbers for all categories of product.

Our protocol is to pack above and beyond the industry standard. Most packaging companies that come in and see our operation are taken back by the amount of pillows we use in one carton – and try everything to get our business because it is not the norm. The industry standard is to put the item in the box to one corner and then fill the void with dunnage whether it is peanuts, pillows, foam, or paper.

We instruct our packers to blanket the bottom and the sides of the box, place the item in the middle and then fold over the pillows and add more to fill the box where needed. The only thing we don’t add any pillows to are items that ship in the vendor box, and soft goods (t-shirts, backpacks, hats, etc).

All that being said, it sounds from your feedback that for some reason your package wasn't packed as it should have been, for which I can only, at this point, apologize most sincerely. If you would like to send me your order number plus a couple of pictures of the packaging then I will raise this with the DC Manager: Helen@adorama.com (external link)

I wonder how Helen finds all of these threads, does she do a search every day or something? I always see her reply pretty quickly.

Yes!

And that's why she is the best and one of the main reasons I buy from Adorama.

I did send you an email upon delivery, which was early Spring 2011 if memory serves me.

The Canon box was inside your box, with your box being way oversized, to the point that the Canon article was free to tumble about. The couple of packing pillows served only to keep the mechandise company as it cavorted about during it's journey.

The fact the box was so oversized probably was a big contributor to its battered condition.

Canon does a good job with their packaging, obviously the camera see a lot of handling during its journey and one would expect it to handle the occasional drop.

....the best camera is the one you have on you at the time.
