These are the MTF charts of 3 lenses I own, which have FL redundancy. I found the MTF charts from Sigma and Canon, and I really don't understand them too well, even after reading this (external link). Can you read these and give an opinion? And maybe explain the charts so my Mom will understand them?

Thanks!

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

if you're looking to figure out which lens is the sharpest...set up a tripod and take some shots with your lenses...

Yeah, I used Lens #1 last night (7/4), and while the fireworks looked good, the othr 'family' shots didn't look sharp at all. I printed out a FF/BF sheet, and going to try and see if the lens has an issue.

In regards to the MTF's above, it would seem to me that with the 2 lens setup (#2 + #3), there will be too points of IQ falloff (at the far end of each), whereas with one lens there would only be one point of IQ falloff, and the single far end. None of these lenses are of high quality, and I'm aware of that setting out, but it's what I have/can afford, and I'm trying to whittle it to the best I have.

sorry kirks518, the problem w/ MTF charts is each Manufacturer kind of goes by their own standards instead of an "industry standard".
Its not like your Digital Display - you can use a standard Frequency Burst pattern from a standard test DVD/CD, display it, and can tell how well your TV performs in several areas since the test disc is an industry standard.
With these MTF charts, since each manufacturer goes by its own standard, a 0.9 on a sigma isn't the same as a 0.9 on a Canon or Zeiss, or Nikon. All they are really good for is approximately how that lens will perform against the the prior model of the same brand. (Generally speaking of course).
that is is the Mark 2 better performer than the mark 1 from Canon...well their MTF chart seems to suggest... but better get it home and confirm it for real.

There is a new company/website trying to judge all lenses by the same standards to confirm real / proven differences. They don't use MTF charts at all. that would be DxoMark... maybe your lenses are tested here :http://www.dxomark.com/index.php (external link)
