The camera is kinda heavy, I carried it around my neck with the provided Canon strap, and if I tucked the strap under my collar it was fine, but directly around my neck the strap rubbed uncomfortably. Still, it was much better than a 5D2 and 24-70 in 108 degree heat when your walking 6 miles or more everyday.

Overall I was very pleased with the G1X, when we got home we immediately just plugged the camera into our HD TV and started showing our family the JPEG images. Shots at high ISO's were good up to 3200 and although the AF was still slow, everything was nicely in focus and crisp.

This is where I struggle, the OP saying the G1x is big, and looking at the pictures, I really wonder if you would see a difference using a S100, 1/2 the size, and 1/2 the price.

I know, but I can slip my slip my s100 in my cargo shorts, not sure if I could do that with the G1x.......and I am not putting the G1x down, I am going back and forth on getting one, just struggling on the size to justify better iq, and if my old eyes would see that much difference.

You can't tell from these images but truly the quality from the G1X is remarkable ; way better than any other compact I've owned except for my Leica X1.
I upset Fuji fans by telling them that it takes better pics than my Fuji X100 and I mean it.

Sure the camera itself is a horrible design and shot to shot times are appalling unless you use the burst mode but again and again it's delivering results that exceed my expectations.
It's heavy and ugly with a lousy shutter button but AF isn't as slow as many make out and it seems to be as tough as old boots.
If your bottom line is high IQ in a single package then this is it...even better than my G3 with 14-45mm lens and micro 4/3 sensor!
BTW I've had some cracking results at a recent wedding just leaving the thing on Auto;)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the G1X.

I'm waiting for the rumored Canon mirrorless system to decide if I'm going to sink money in micro four-thirds, go with the Canon mirrorless, or just hold off deciding on a mirrorless, interchangeable lens system for another year or so and just buy a G1X.

If I can avoid the problems I had with the control layout of my old G11, sounds like the G1X is a great Plan-B to leaving my 5D3 at home.
