So I have had a 450D(Rebel XSi) for about 2 years now, and although it is a pretty solid camera, I feel as if it is time to upgrade. I've had my eyes set on the 5D2 for quite some time now, however I have heard some mixed reviews about some aspects of this camera, mainly being the auto focus.

So I was just wondering if anyone could tell me about their experiences with the 5D2 and if the auto focus is as bad as people have been saying? :)

If you're doing really high-speed fast-moving sports photography then there are better cameras for the job, however, it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination!

As others have said, it's a great camera. I moved from a 450D to a 5DII and it was verging on a religious experience, frankly.

If you need fast AF (BIF, etc) then you will find it lacking but, for still objects or even objects that move but not either fast or erratically it's a great body.

What sort of things are you looking to shoot with it?

Thanks for all the feedback! :D

At the moment I use my camera for a wide range of stuff from photojournalism to light painting, yet I do shoot a little bit of sports such as BMX.

It'll positively excell in all those areas, including BMX (if you use the centre focus point).

You'll love it, seriously.

AFTER THOUGHT: what lenses do you have, out of interest?

Awesome :D I am glad to hear it :)

At the moment I have the 18-55 and 55-200 kit lenses, 50mm f1.8, 100mm f2.8 macro lens.
I am planning on purchasing the 17-40mm f4 L lens after getting the 5D2 body because my kit lenses are not compatible with a full frame sensor :(

Careful... 18-55 on crop is a completely different range to 17-40 on full frame.

If you're looking for something equivalent, that is, a medium range zoom, then i'd recommend the 24-105 f4 L. It's both wider and longer...

Sound advice, the 24-105 is 'the' walk around lens and would suit you well, me thinks.
