The town that I live in exists for one reason: iron ore. It is a mining town. Iron ore is in everything. Even the bugs are saturated with it as can be seen in this preying mantis. :-)

A few more shots. Both minor crops.

A gray jay, minor crop. I tried a bigger crop to get closer to the bird but IMO it seemed better with more of the picnic table showing so here we are.

And here we have a pair of grouse in the middle of their courtship ritual which I rudely interrupted. Sorry.

Today was the last day with this wonderful camera. I owned it since 2012 and sold it with just 35k clicks. It helped me with my photography along the way. This will be my last photo being shared on this tread. It was a good run and hopefully the young lady who bought from me gets good use out of it as she is starting to learn this stuff.

I've had several cameras alongside this one. The 5d2, 5d3 that have been my work horses during wedding events. I am also selling those and sticking with my EOS R now and looking to get the R5 in the coming months to have it ready as the main workhorse for events spring next year if this virus lets up a bit.

Had a good week. Woodpeckers are a rare find but I ran across one on each of three different days this past week. It is very possible these two shots on different days (Sunday & Friday) are of the same bird. The other one had the red patch on it's head. These are fairly large crops. Not easy keeping track of a black and white bird in a near black and white environment.

Downy Woodpeckers. The one with the red dot would be a male, the pics are of a female. Nice shots.

Thanks for the information / confirmation. I thought the flashy one might be the male as that is the norm for a lot of birds. I only saw the male that one time. The second shot - with gloves on I had unknowingly moved the mode dial from Av to P. The scene was back-lit and for some reason the camera picked F13 instead of raising the shutter speed. Still came out ok.
