I just stumbled upon a used Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR DI at a local shop online. They give it a 9+ out of 10 which means near perfect. It is $269 with a 60 day warranty and 15 day return policy. What do you think?

Go for it! Online, the lens goes for much more except for one place.

Wow that is cheap. Might have to call to find out why.

As long as you have a warranty on it, you are in pretty safe waters.

But that is a deal if it works correctly.

When testing it, put it in good light, so its easier to identify focus issues.

That is not bad considering about the lowest "good" vendor online (buydig and Beach) it is $319 after $30 rebate.

I can guess why that one site is so cheap, but will refer you to resellerratings.com

http://www.resellerratings.com/seller10652.html (external link) 4.06....at least it's not a .67 like expresscameras.com  Granted, there's only I think 4 reviews. I'd skip it, pay $30, and get it from buydig.com.

And price grabber only has 3 reviews on that place. So not much to go on from those two sources.

Yup, I won't be buying from the low ballers on pricegrabber. They seem to be the guys from New York that people have had trouble with. Thanks

I ordered the used one from the local shop. Should see it in a couple days. I'll let you know how it turns out.

You made the right choice. You'll be happy with the lens...especially at that price and warranty.

I had a 28-75mm before being stricken by "L" lens disease. It was a great performer. Light. Compact. Fast.

Cheers!

Oh, one other (niggling) thing, in your signature, the spelling is Canon with one "N". Just FYI
The other spelling will make people wonder when you say you like to shoot people, buildings, etc :) :)

Ha I just changed it today and didn't even realize. Thanks.

The L bug will get me too I'm sure but will have to wait for the money tree to grow back:D . I am actually going to pick up the lens tonight so hopefully will have some pics to post soon.

Yeah, pricegrabber is good fo future use, just don't take the small reviewed places, and you'll get good deals. It's really saved me a lot of money over the years. It's good to hear though you got that type of deal.

I picked up the lens tonight and my wife and I shot some photos with it. I ended up getting an even better deal than I thought as the lens had the hood with it and i printed a coupon off of their website for a $25 gift card with instore purchase over $200. Now I have $25 toward the BG-E3 grip. Here are some pics of the lens and a shot of my dog Gizmo.

EDIT: Pics didn't work, I will try again

Let me know what you think. I did some test shots on a tripod to test the focus and I think it is back focusing just slightly, but I'm no expert.

Also, are some lenses subject to more red eye than others or is it the setup of the camera and lighting conditions?
