Know a Canon staffer that can sell me a 5D3 and 24-105 Kit for $3800. It will be sealed in box. It won't be grey market, but any warranty work will have to go thru him since it's a employee deal.

If I was dead set on a 5D3, this would be a no brainier, but is this a good enough deal that it's worth buying anyway? I've only been half toying with the idea of a 5D3 since the 5D2 suits me just fine.

Wonder what the retail prices of 5D3 will be by the end of this year...? Hmm....

it's 300 more than i just paid for the body. that gives you an L lens for 300. i'd say yes. since you already have the 24-105 you can sell the lens for around 800 (you can probably sell your used one for close to that) so, that puts you in the body for 3k. i tortured myself for weeks over getting the 5d3 and after i fired off the first picture i knew it was worth it.

could be but there are always deals from buydig and others which make Kit prices like $4000.

I would do it. 5d3 is so much better than a 5d2 IMO

So how would you get a warranty repair if he quits or is otherwise unavailable?

I'd say you're basically buying a camera with no warranty...

sure, even if you don't want it you could easily get that for when you're done with it - assuming you find someone who doesn't care about the warranty.

I don't get it. Employee deal but why would warranty have to go through him? It sound suspicious to me. Hate to say it but it maybe be stolen by employee. Could be test model or pre-production units and he's trying to sell it.

My friend works for Canon Australia and he said the price is less then $3000. The person who is selling is making some good money.
