Looking for user opinions more than anything.

My most used lens is my 50mm, eather side of this I also use a 35mmL and a 135mmL

My quandary is that I sometimes wish I had somthing wider than my 35mm which to me seems quite close to my 50mm.

Has anyone had a similar problem, has anyone ever thought about swapping their 35mm for a 24mm (which is what I'm thinking about doing right now)?

Back in the days of fixed focal length lenses on film cameras, the most commonly purchased FL were 35, 50, 100, and 135. Later 28mm become more common, as did 24mm.
Divide those FL by 1.6 to determine the APS-C equivalent of what has traditionally been found to be most valuable.

As for 'too close of FL', the rule thumb espoused by the magazines for film SLRs was
"1.2x separation' makes sense to own, anything less is generally 'too close' "

It's one of those questions that we can all offer our opinions on and they will all be valid, but our experiences may not directly help your decision process.

In my case, for wide I went with a 20mm, mid range, 35, and long is a 135. I have a 50, which I do enjoy, but I typically prefer 35mm for most of my work.

When I shot with rangefinders I was a little odd in that I really liked my kit of 28/35/50 despite how close they are. Each one tells a different story.

24, 50, 135 (70-200)

or

35, 85, 135 (70-200)

pretty much the standard trinity lens lineup.
