Auto focus issues

I have started having auto focus issues when using a Sigma 28-70 f2.8 on a Rebel XS. I was about to send the lens in for repair but decided to try the lens on my 50D first. Surprise, the auto focus works great on the 50D. Auto focus was working on the XS until recently.

My question; will a firmware update on the XS fix the issue?

If the update will work, is this something I should attempt to do myself?

Thanks for any help offered.

If the AF was previously working fine on the current FW, then it is highly unlikely that a FW update would solve the AF issue.

Updating the FW is a relatively simple process which most ppl can do.
