Greetings,

First time poster after lurking on and off for 3-4 years. I was a Canon film shooter up until about 10 years ago. I resumed the hobby again about 3 years ago and picked up a 30D as my first foray into the digital SLR world. I'm still using lenses from my film days; 20-35, 28-105, 100F2 and a 70-210, all EF mid-range consumer lenses some of which seem to be fairly well regarded to this day.
What I miss most with my current lenses is the ability to shoot anything wide on the
30D. I have contemplated buying the Canon 10-22 or the 15-85 but haven't pulled the trigger. With the advent of the 5D3 and the number of 5D classics coming on the market I find myself considering one as an option to a lense purchase.
I'm obviously not into the latest greatest technology so age of the 5D this is not a big consideration. I see outstanding photos posted using older gear and frankly at my age (approaching retirement) simpler, if the 5D is less complex, seems better.

I enjoy the forum and appreciate any comments or suggestions.

I would say you're a very good candidate...

The 5Dc is a most excellent collector of photons. :D

Depends on what you like to shoot. Stills, cityscapes, portraits, landscapes all scream 5dc. If you want to shoot action, I think your current camera will serve you better.

I agree that you are a canidate for FF. I was in a similar position as you are with your 30D but I made the jump to FF about 4 years ago and even had my 30D for awhile after. Then I decided to let my 30D go since I didn't shoot it anymore and was disappointed with the IQ especially at high ISO.
It's a fantastic camera with for the price you will not be disappointed at all.

what do you like to shoot? the newer stuff can be just as simple as the 5dc. turn the dial to "m" and shoot how you want to. if i didn't want to invest a lot in the hobby i'd consider the 10-22. the 5dc's seem to be losing value right now. if you find you're happy enough with the 10-22 consider a newer crop body eventually. i think cannon is going to re invent the 7d and xxd series very soon with new models with digic5 processors so the market will be flooded with 7d's and 60d's after that. worst case you could re-sell the 10-22 at little or no loss and probably pick up a 5dc for even less. i started out with plans of shooting wildlife and within months the 10-22 was the only lens i even carried. it's really good. if you are set on a 5dc pm me, i just bought a 5diii.

A 5D will cost you less than a 10-22 lens and a 5D will have your lenses all performing like they did with your film SLRs. The lenses will seem sharper on the 5D too for the same size print as the 30D.

You can use the free Canon Digital Photo Professional software to remove the geometric distortion and chromatic aberration from your 20-35 and 28-105 if you shoot raw these these aberrations bother you.

i didn't think about the film lenses working on the 5dc sensor like that. i take back my earlier suggestion. i think i'd wait a little while, though. i think the 5dc's and even 5dii's are about to start getting cheaper and cheaper. if canon drops the price of the 5diii around christmas there will be a lot of upgrading going on.
