Hope someone can give me some advice, today I was shooting on my backyard some macros.. everything was fine. The problem was when I was reviewing the pictures, then some sweat drops (it's hot here around 110-113) fall of my head and went exactly where the "set" button is, I wipe it with my shirt. (yeah I was sweating, but not like a pig or something like that)

Exactly where I put the yellow square is where the drops went. Where acording to my understanding this it supposed to be sealed..

And now the set button and the multidirectional button doesn't works... If I hit Left it goes down, thats the only function that works..

Right now I have that part of the camera on rice (hoping it will absorb the humidity) if tomorrow isn't working I will have to send it for a repair estimate, anyone know how much could be ??

What you guys think, could be a coincidence of malfunction or that seal is pure bull**** and it doesn't exists ?

Really I can't bealive that some drops of sweat could damage the camera.

Should be sufficient one would think. But why not cover all the bases?

just partially fill a ziplock bag with rice and put the camera with a lens and lens cap mounted in the bag and seal it up for say 2 hours and it should have dried it out

The 60D is definitely NOT advertised as being weather-sealed like the 1DX is, for example.

If salty water got into the switch, I would expect it to short out part of or all of the switch and that would be seen as a malfunction.

If salty water got into the switch, drying it out will NOT solve any problems for the long-term. The salt will cause continuous corrosion.

In my opinion, it would be best to send the camera to Canon right now and get the problem resolved. If the camera is still in warranty, they may very well do a no-charge repair if the seal around the switch (such as it is) was not properly installed. Call Canon's service center before sending the camera to them.

Done... now it's on a ziplock. I really hope this help..

SkipD.. Yeah I understand that is not advertised as weather sealed. I could understand it, this was not a rain or was in to the pool.. but really I can't bealive that the camera can't stand to some sweat. Unfortunately is not covered by the warranty...

Then a really question.. That rubber seal that is "supposed" to be behind some buttons, what is for ??

Sweat is probably worse to get on it then rain water, but mine has gone through some pretty heavy duty stuff when it comes to that sort of thing without a problem minus the rubber grips falling off it   but that's a different story.

That is really odd you have that problem.
I live in AZ so sweat is normal out here and I've never had this
Issue. I may be lucky that I haven't gotten it into the rear dial.

After 3 hours on a ziplock with rice.. No luck. the multidirectional works very weird (at least much better than at the start) and the set button doesn't do anything.. Any idea on how much could be the repair ??

Yeah maybe sweat could be worst than pure rain water due to salt. But i'm really dissapointed about this, cuz that mean that I would not be able to take pictures on the very hot climate that we have here on Imperial Valley,Ca. because i a have to be very carefull cuz a some sweat can ruin my camera. No way...

And really don't take me wrong, but when I was shooting Sony (3 years) never had a problem with that one, and i did shot at very high temps, and also on the rain. But On the 60D, 2 months later the grip was peeled (ok no problem doesn't affect the camera function) and now some sweat does affect the camera.. I'm thinking very serious jumping to other brand.

Maybe I really had bad luck having my sweat going thru that d-pad, but it's not acceptable. Because it's not abuse or something like that...

jhayesvw Yeah overthere have high temps like here 110+, take my advice, be very carefull with your sweat

Tomorrow I will call Canon support and arrange to send it to be fixed :(

I'll be curious about the results/resilution of this since a 60D is on my short list (assuming my short budget ever grows enough).

I also tend to sweat, and would have plans of taking a camera to the Pacific coast of Washington state next time we head there, so this is a bit of a concern for me.

Subscribing and watching

I've seen 60Ds that were literally covered in rain, one of the storm spotters on "Storm Chasers" on Discovery uses one with a kit lens and it was doing fine.

Seems like either yours has some kind of an issue, or you just got super unlucky with a random chance where it found a way in. When you wiped it did you also press the button in?

I live in a hot, humid environment here (especially now in the rainy season), and I tend to perspire heavily, but so far no issues. The 60D has some sealing, just about the same as the 7D, but nothing like a ID.
