Adobe Bridge: Automatic Permanent Deletion?

Simply put: When I use Adobe Bridge to view or edit my pictures straight from an SD Card, the act of deletion seems to be final.

In other words, nothing enters my Trash bin. The image (or images) simply vanish, despite the fact that the program alerts me via pop-up that the files will be entering the trash bin.
Thankfully, nothing important has been lost. However, I would still like to know why this is happening. (Note: This does *not* occur if the files are originally found on the computer's hard drive.)

(Tech Info: I'm using Windows 7, CS 5.1, Bridge 5.1)

No replies?

Try it yourself... Is this not a problem?

I gave it a try and you are correct that I could not find the deleted file anywhere.

It is not a problem for me because I never use Bridge to delete a file from the card. I may delete one via the trash while card is still in camera if I goofed settings up and I know it is not usable. Once images are uploaded and backed up on pc and I need the card, then I format the card in camera.

I would NEVER select/sort images direct from a memory card, It's asking for trouble IMO.
It sounds like a bug of some sort if Bridge is telling you it will go to the recycle bin though.

Agreed, I never delete files from the card when it is connected to the pc.

Just for giggles I set up a card with a few test images. I used Explorer and navigated to the card, right-clicked a file and choose Delete. The pop up only had "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?" No option to send to the Recycle Bin like there is on a regular drive. It seems to be more of a Windows bug than Bridge.

Pretty sure there's no recycle bin for removable drives. If you don't want to delete things, don't use the delete key, rate them instead.

Why are you doing this on a memory card? I find it easier to copy them to the PC then rate them. This also means you don't have to build the cache twice, once on the card and once on the hard drive when they're copied. Cards are slow too, I'd rather go do something else while they copy then process fast than wait for it to build from the card slowly while I wait.

I guess you ticked the "do not ask this again" button on the warning dialog when you got it the first time?

But, as others said, copy all images from the card to a HDD first.
Also, that's a good time to change the filename to something meaningful ;)

Adobe does have a "download" function/plug-in that can be used both to download from a card and to rename files and such. I used to use it all the time (until I switched to Lightroom).

and it is very handy too. You can access it thru Bridge and then File/Get Photos from Camera. I found the exe file and made a shortcut to it as well.

Windows doesn't send to Trash Bin files deleted from a mounted device or a shared drive. It will only trash files coming from the local drive.Bridge mustn't have updated the delete dialog for files coming from a memory card.

It's not a problem for me anymore. I just copy the images to my hard drive immediately and browse from there.
