It looks like the 50-150 has the same problem as the 70-200 that can't use the zoom ring when the hood is reverse mounted.

Perhaps not a big deal for a big serious, lens but on my other lenses, I like the option of being able to quickly get right to picture taking if I need to.

Is it true that the lens hood needs to be removed on the 50-150 to access the zoom ring? How easy is it to get the hood from reverse to proper mounting? (I have smaller lenses with hoods like the the 15-85, Tamron 28-75, and Canon 50-250. )

I'm eager to order the 50-150 but am holding off for a couple of weeks with the rumors flying of a mirrorless body coming out. Hoping it is APS-C.

I haven't tried it but I would think it would a little more difficult than a Canon lens and hood would be. However, and I'll have to verify this, I believe you could do it where the petals are shorter.

As for the off/on, it's not hard - just line up the on and twist. No harder or more time consuming than any other lens hood.

FWIW, I haven't shot with the hood yet - I just leave it off. Would never do that out walking around, but for home uses, I skip the hood.

Almost all telephotos are that way because telephotos use deep hoods.

You cannot zoom with the hood reversed.

Geez....that lens is big! Especially with the hood attached. Thanks for the pics.

When you use these lenses, do your kids stop what they are doing? Seems like it would be hard to ignore you. :)

I would feel uncomfortable if someone pointed a lens like this at me!

I'll try to get you one at lunch today. I do believe, if memory serves me right, it is longer and wider than your 50-135 and likely weighs about the same. Hoods for both lenses are ridiculously big and long.

Thanks for the pic, but that thing dwarfs the 50-135! Specs say it is a pound heavier, too. I think the 50-135mm would come up to where the zoom ring starts... :)

Nice. So you have 17-300mm f/2.8 and OS. Reading your post, i didn't get why you'd ditch the 70-200II. I didn't notice you had the 120-300 until I read your sig. I guess you save over $1000 and that huge overlap in focal length this way.

Depends on her mood at the time. Sometimes she ignores it and sometimes she knows I'm taking pictures and wants to come see them.

Yea, now that I think back to when I had that lens, this one is much longer. It may weight more, but I think the longer body helps balance the weight better. And it focuses a whole lot faster.

Not sure about the saving $1000 part, but I'm pretty happy with where I am now. With the 1.4x and 2x included, I am covered up to 600 5.6 on crop bodies. While I need to get it out in proper light to do some testing, I was impressed with the images from the 2x around the home interior tonight.

Huntersdad can you start a lens sample tread and I am hopping that those who have bought this lens will also contribute to the sample tread. I am thinking of getting this lens next year when the money runs into my pocket.

Same story as Ito. Huntersdad's review and comments were among the most helpful on the web for the Sigma 50-150 f2.8. I waited until today's news about the Canon mirror-less EF-M system to make sure that there we nothing to dissuade me from taking the plunge on the 50-150 f2.8. The EF-M system is pretty underwhelming right now and I expect to stay on APS-C/EF-S for quite a while. I placed my order and it should arrive later this week.

I am looking forward to it and thanks to Huntersdad for being so helpful.

Thanks Pro. Hope you enjoy it.

Now, if I can just get my 120-300 tuned in.....
